Ladies, the Noosa Pirates want you!
Have a guess at what you think one of the fastest growing sports in Australia would be? Well, it’s Rugby League!
So young ladies of Noosa, are you feeling bored? Do you need some more exercise in your life? Are you craving that next adrenalin rush?
The Noosa Pirates are currently looking for girls from 13-18 years old. That means Under 14’s (2001-2002 born); Under 16’s (2000-1999 born) and Under 18’s (1998-1997 born) to join a wonderful family orientated club.
The girls train every Tuesday and Thursday from 5:00 – 6:00pm, with games played on Friday evenings. The season kicks off for the girls on Friday, 13 March and goes for ten weeks, so don’t worry about missing the first game.
Players of all levels of ability are very welcome to join and are all catered for with very patient and understanding coaches. Team sports are also a great way to meet new people and create lasting friendships.
Last week, the manager of the Cooroy Community Bank branch of Bendigo Bank and Noosa Pirates’ sponsor, Geoff Edwards visited the girls at training. Coaches Paul Dwyer and Tony McIlroy were keen to show Geoff the commitment and developing skill of the girls.
“The girls’ energy was fantastic,” Geoff said.
“It just reinforces to all of us the importance of sport with the young people in our community. The growth trajectory of Women in League is amazing and I’m delighted we’re able to support the Noosa Pirates, Paul, Tony, all the girls and their passion for what they’re all doing here. They’re obviously having fun and that’s what it’s all about,” Geoff said.
The girls play with modified rules and nine players per side. The cost is $150 and the girls get two training sessions a week, 10 games of Rugby League plus a Pirates shirt, shorts and socks, so it’s great value for money and if you qualify for the government Get Started Vouchers, registration could be free.
If you require more information please contact the Noosa Pirates on 0408 473 892, or you can register online at www.ndjrl.com.au. You are also more than welcome to come and visit the clubhouse at 57 Mary Street, Cooroy on Tuesday or Thursday afternoon to see the girls in action.
