Cooroy Forecast – Snow, Smiles & a Spectacular Tree

The elves have worked extra hard this year to decorate Cooroy and they’ve apparently even planned a surprise with the weather too!

ThVolunteers unite to decorate the town in preparation for 2014 Christmas in Cooroy (2)ose in the know are forecasting snow in Cooroy on Friday 5 December when the Ricon Christmas tree is officially turned on at 7pm for Christmas in Cooroy. One thing is for sure, there will be many smiles from all ages as it is a great evening out for the whole family.  Each year the beautiful Cooroy tree becomes more spectacular and there is little debate about which tree is the best on the Sunshine Coast.

Cooroy is one of the few towns that fund and install their own decorations thanks to the dedication of a host of volunteer elves and some very generous sponsors.

Ri-con Christmas TreeRicon Contractors sponsor the tree which is the centre point to the decorations, Cooroy Pest Control sponsor the roundabout decorations at Garnet Street; Sunshine Mitre 10, Hinternoosa Real Estate, Cooroy Community Branch of Bendigo Bank, Cooroy Supa IGA Cooroy and Cooroy Central Guardian Pharmacy sponsor the rooftop decorations; Cooroy Chamber of Commerce fund the street decorations and over 40 volunteers are the Christmas elves that decorated the town.

There are also 21 shops in town that have created a Shop Window Trail with beautifully decorated windows and a Cooroy possum in fancy dress in each window. Shoppers can win a $100 Luke’s Supa IGA Cooroy voucher by finding the possums and voting on their favourite window.

The official turning on of the Christmas Tree lights and the launch of the Shop Window Trail occurs at the roundabout on the corner of Maple & Emerald Streets at 7.00pm Friday 5 December with carols by the Hinterland Christian Centre. It is preceded by the official opening of the Guardian Pharmacy “Remember When…” Photo Exhibition at the Butter Factory Arts Centre at 6pm.

There is also a Cooroy Grass Roots Twilight Market from 3pm to 8pm and after the Christmas lights are turned there is a movie, ‘Arthur Christmas’ on the rooftop of the library thanks to Starry Nights Movies

And Friday’s celebrations are just the precursor to all of the free fun and festivities of Christmas in Cooroy on Saturday 6 December. For all the information go to But whatever you do – make sure you don’t miss it!
