The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) have advised us about upcoming traffic changes as part of works for the Bruce Highway Cooroy to Curra (Section A: Cooroy southern interchange to Sankeys Road) project.
On Monday 11 April 2016, the new all movements Cooroy northern interchange will open and Bruce Highway traffic will switch to the new 7km highway alignment between Cudgerie Drive and Sankeys Road, connecting to the highway upgrade at Federal.
A number of temporary traffic changes and detours will be in place during the week prior to the traffic switch. These changes are outlined below and in the map below (all dates are subject to weather). We apologise for any inconvenience these works may cause and encourage motorists to observe reduced speed limits, drive carefully and follow the direction of traffic controls.
Friday 8 April
- Northbound highway traffic will switch on to the new Bruce Highway Cooroy alignment between Cudgerie Drive and Sankeys Road (southbound traffic will remain on the Old Bruce Highway).
- Northbound on and off-ramps will open at the new Cooroy northern interchange.
6am Friday 8 April – 6am Monday 11 April (temporary detours)
- There will be no northbound access on the Old Bruce Highway north of Evan Thomas Road (formerly Christies Road) at Federal. Motorists wishing to travel north past Evan Thomas Road will need to travel south to the new Cooroy northern interchange and then access the new highway alignment via the northbound on-ramp. This detour will affect local motorists accessing the Old Bruce Highway northbound from Black Mountain Range Road, Pioneer Road, Pomona Connection Road, Gardners Road, Andrews Road and Evan Thomas Road.
- There will be no northbound access to Pomona via the Old Bruce Highway. Motorists wishing to access Pomona northbound from the Bruce Highway will exit at the new Cooroy northern interchange off-ramp (Exit 237) and will be detoured via Yurol Forest Road. Detour signage will be in place at the interchange.
Night works and stop/go traffic control
From Sunday 3 April to Sunday 10 April 2016, night works will be required on the Bruce Highway for implementation works including line marking, barrier relocation and asphalting. Further night works will be required intermittently until early-May 2016 for finishing works including asphalting and removal of side tracks.
Single lane closures and stop/go traffic control will be in place at multiple locations on the Bruce Highway between Cudgerie Drive and Sankeys Road between 6pm and 6am, with signage and traffic controllers directing motorists. Nearby residents may experience some noise and lighting associated with these night works.
TMR would like to thank road users and the local community for their patience during these works and will continue to keep you informed of Section A project activities as they progress.
In the meantime, if you would like further information on the Bruce Highway Cooroy to Curra upgrade, please:
