Australian Body Art Festival will be Out of This World!

Australia’s premier body painting event is taking place on Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 April in the Noosa Hinterland town of Cooroy in a new venue at Apex Park.  With a theme this year of “Other Worlds” it is sure to offer up art to delight the senses!

The festival is a colourful and creative experience for all ages and offers a unique free weekend of activities.

“This is a fantastic event that offers something really unique and different.  Spectators always say what a wonderful experience it is to see living works of art come to life.  This year, you can expect to have an out of this world experience with so much on offer thanks to our funding partners and sponsors.  Put 6 & 7 April in your diaries and plan to be in Cooroy having an arty fun time!” said event manager, Danielle Taylor.

The Australian Government has contributed $34,500 in funding from the Building Better Regions Fund which will facilitate the move to the new venue of Apex Park while also growing the festival and providing an extended entertainment program across the weekend.

The Australian Body Art Festival is supported by the Queensland Government through Tourism and Events Queensland’s Destination Events Program, which has provided an additional $12,000 in funding for marketing and infrastructure support. The event features on the It’s Live! in Queensland events calendar, which is worth $800m to the state’s economy in 2019.

This award-winning event is centred on competitions in temporary body painting in the categories of brush and sponge, airbrush, special effects and face painting.  All types of artists participate from around Australia and they simply used their artistic flair to work on a very different canvas – the human body! For members of the public, it’s an event like nothing ever seen before, as human canvases take shape during the competitions.

It’s not just body painting competitions – the festival also hosts a Wearable Art competition and parades with funky fashions made from recycled treasures.  There are also workshops, interactive art, street performers, a wonderful selection of market stalls, delectable food and activities for the kids and for those that are just kids at heart.  Plus, to finish each day, there is an amazing parade of the completed body painting.

This festival is run by the volunteers at Cooroy Chamber of Commerce and funded through the Australian Government Building Better Regions Fund; the Tourism and Events Queensland Destination Events Program; and sponsorships from Eumundi & District Historical Association, Tourism Noosa, Cooroy Community Bank Branch of Bendigo Bank, Wythes Real Estate, Noosa Outback, Sunshine Coast Daily, Outback Queensland Tourism, Cooroy Supa IGA, Fiducian Financial Services, Regional Training Services Qld, Sunny Coast Accountants, Mehron Australia, Face Paints Australia, The Looney Bin, Derivan, RACV Noosa, SPV Accounting, Butter Factory Arts Centre, Gelignite Jacks, Black Ant Gourmet, Firefly Solutions, Cooroy Menswear & Jeanery, Original Eumundi Markets, Geoff Cook Signs, Mudputty, Not Just Another Salon, and Fairytale Events & Equip4Hire.
