Hollywood Comes to Cooroy

Each and every year Christmas in Cooroy brings a little extra fun to the days leading up to Christmas.  One of the main attractions is the Bendigo Bank Street Parade where around 30 community groups and businesses come together to produce a huge array of decorated floats and costumes galore.  The theme for this year is ‘The Movies’ and the some of the organising committee got together this week to try out a few costume ideas including the Man from Snowy River, Scream, Gandalf from The Hobbit, King Arthur, the Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland, Maleficent, Dobby from Harry Potter, Lancelot and Belle from Beauty & the Beast.

HOLLYWOOD COMES TO COOROY

“The Bendigo Bank Street Parade is truly a spectacular part of Christmas in Cooroy and over 10,000 people line Maple Street to catch it.  There are always lots of giveaways and lollies handed out into the crowds and people of all ages are just amazed at how great the floats look. People are always amazed that everything at Christmas in Cooroy is free and that couldn’t happen without sponsors like Cooroy Community Bank Branch,” said event manager, Danielle Taylor.

“We are always pleased to be involved with Christmas in Cooroy as it’s so much fun and it really puts Cooroy on the map during the festive season.  But the real reason we continue to be major sponsors is that it gives so much benefit for the community. It is a showcase of great community spirit with everyone working together to produce something quite special,” said Cooroy Community Bank branch manager, Geoff Edwards.

There is still time to be in the Bendigo Bank Street Parade, entry forms are available on the website – www.christmasincooroy.com.au. It’s a great way to get some exposure for your community group or business and it’s a lot of fun.

The official lighting of the Ricon Christmas tree on Friday 2 December and the Christmas in Cooroy festival on Saturday 3 December have become a tradition for many families from Noosa and further.

There is no doubt that the Bendigo Bank Street Parade is a big drawcard but Christmas in Cooroy also boasts an entirely free program including the Noosa to Hinterland Great Santa Race where you can watch dozens of participants dress in Santa suits and dash the length of Maple Street to raise money for Leukaemia; the Hinterland Dental East VS West Tug of War; the Cooroy Fish and Chips Santa Sack races for the kids where each and every child wins a prize; free rides and heaps of other activities to enjoy!
