Items to be added to agenda: Nil

Minutes of the last meeting are on the website: www.cooroy.com.au.

Actions arising from the minutes: Gemma Hunt: There was discussion about how the Chamber could utilise her skills. Danielle will email her proposing that she write a piece about the 10 best attractions about Cooroy from the point of view of RVs.

Did she write one? Danielle didn’t email her. Jennifer will email her with the proposal

In the absence of any other issues arising Tania Stewart Proposed and Elona Bosboom Seconded the motion that the minutes be accepted.

New Business:

  1. Treasurer’s Report: Lynda Sandford not available. Danielle Taylor reported that there is about $30,000 in the bank, and that about $20,000 will be put on Term Deposit.
  1. Meetings
    • Attended
      • Jennifer Sadler attended the CARA meeting re Myall St development. About 100 people attended. It was cordial with questions from the floor. There is no direct access from the highway and traffic has to enter from Myall St. The IGA has been removed. One of the Service Station operators felt that custom would be taken from him and he was already just breaking even. There was support for it by a small majority.
      • Danielle Taylor attended the Noosa Council meeting on Community Jury. She was impressed by the process and felt that it would be good for the Shire. Any doubts she had about the necessity for a community jury were dispelled.
  • Forthcoming:
    • CCIQ 19 February. Anyone can attend

  1. Committee Reports:
    • Christmas in Cooroy: Budget Discussion / 2015 Event Management: It is estimated that there will be a $2,400 loss but at this stage the money from the bar and the BBQ estimated about $600 hasn’t been presented. The Chamber owes $500 for sponsorship, the photographer pulled out so sponsorship money had to be returned to the sponsor and the Poet’s Breakfast was cancelled. The loss was also probably as a result of lower numbers because of the wet weather.

A lot of the Christmas decorations may need replacing. Laser light display suggested but the cost for the month would be prohibitive.

Discussion re Christmas in Cooroy event management: Danielle Taylor reported that she will be happy to organise the 2015 Christmas in Cooroy with the same conditions as last year’s contract.

Proposed by Elona Bosboom and Seconded by Andy Flitter that the committee approve that Danielle Taylor oversee the organisation of Christmas in Cooroy for 2015 with the same conditions as her 2014 contract.

  • Website and app: Hosting / Audit: Andy Flitter and Nina have sorted out the app and the chamber memberships.
  • Retail Strategy: Kurui Design Quote: Danielle Taylor reported that Matt Black quoted $825 for the design. Last issue the printing was $3,500 for 5000 copies. The adverts were ¼ page $200, ad a full page $650. Probably will need to increase the cost of advertising as costs have gone up since the last issue was produced. Each member gets a mention. Need someone to sell the advertising. Carol Christensen knows someone who may be interested in sell ig the advertising. There is a commission for this position. Danielle will look into pricing the advertising.
  1. Other Business:
    • Club Cooroy Community Fund $1.74: As the cheque isn’t written out yet because the RSL is concerned the low amount cheques won’t be presented, the Chamber will forgo the $1.74.
  • Next Chamber Meeting: Networking night. The next meeting date is just after Easter so school holidays will still be on. The Primary School hall was a good venue last year so we’ll try for it again. Nikki McDonald (Cooroy Hotel) will put on a bar and the IGA does food trays. Danielle Taylor will look into the best date to have it. Needs to be a night we can get the hall.
  • Development on Myall Street: Will we have a meeting? The public submission period started and runs until March 5. After discussion it was decided that, because of time restraints and because Peter Zipf is away during the submission period, not to host a public meeting but advertise that the submission period had begun in the newsletter, website and facebook page. The Chamber will write a letter of support re the development, reiterating that the Chamber has been fighting to achieve some of the infrastructure for many years. Also discussed setting a precedent and having to have a public meeting for every development in town. Probably not a good idea.
  • Sunshine Coast Business Awards: Danielle Taylor has done her own.
  • Bob Jarvis questions re the Jury System: Emails received from Bob Jarvis that were sent to Councillors and the reply from council. The chamber will not get involved with them.
  • Butter Factory: Carol Christensen reported that a decision about its future would be decided at a council meeting this week.
  • Fusion sponsorships: Carol Christensen presented sponsorship forms and flyers to be distributed. After discussion it was decided to sponsor Fusion to the value of $500.00 (gold) on the proviso that the Chamber can use its own Cooroy app. and Chamber flags.

Meeting closed at: 1.15pm

Next Exec meeting: March 10 2015

Venue: Cooroy Hotel
